A Beautiful Sunday Morning

Enjoying the morning view with my flowering plants in full bloom.

Taking time to relax before starting the household chores for the day.

Whatever we do, let us enjoy the rest of the day.

A blessed Sunday everyone. God bless.

An Encounter with a Pasig Traffic Enforcer

Me and my family attended a baptismal ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi Parish this morning and since the church is near SM Megamall and the reception is in a restaurant just inside this mall, my husband decided that we'll just park at SM Megamall.

We are not familiar with the traffic flow within this area but since we brought the children with us, we decided to bring the car.

We were traversing the inner lane of Dona Julia Vargas Avenue going to SM Megamall when we were flagged down by a Pasig Traffic Enforcer (the blue boys of Pasig City) after we crossed San Miguel Avenue.  Our violation according to the enforcer is swerving ... but later on he said that we did not follow the traffic sign that says "vehicles at inner lane should turn left".  Actually we did see the sign  and we were going to make a left turn at San Miguel Avenue but when we saw the cars in front of us just switched to the inside lane of the supposed to be opposite lane (a counter flow scheme to give way to motorists going to SM megamall), we thought it was just fine to remain in our lane ... a big mistake because we were stopped by the traffic enforcer.

At first I made an appeal to the officer telling him that we are not familiar with the route and it is our first time to drive in this area but he told us that it would be unfair for the other motorists whom they had apprehended before us ... he even showed us the two driver's license he was holding.

Sensing that the Pasig traffic enforcer won't listen to our appeal, I told him to just give us a ticket and I'll make the payment to their office on Monday but he discouraged us to get the ticket because it will just be time consuming and he have to confiscate my husband's driver's license ... instead he offered us to just pay the penalty to him at half the price and he will be the one to pay it to their office and the good thing about it is that he will not confiscate the driver's license.

Haven't been with this kind of situation before, we thought it is how it works and so we agreed with what he was suggesting.  The enforcer told us that the penalty for our violation (ignoring a traffic sign) is 1,000 pesos so we just have to pay him 500 pesos and it will be okay, he showed us a smaller ticket which I thought was a receipt which he will give us but after he received the 500 peso bill he made a sign that we can go.  I called him and I asked for the receipt but he said that there's no receipt needed and the ticket he just filled-up will be submitted to their office.

This is where I came to my senses ... this is not right ... I insisted that he give us a receipt and his name.  I'm trying to read his name tag but it was hidden with a strap of a sling bag or part of their uniform? ... I'm not sure.

Since the enforcer won't give us a receipt and his name, I told him to return the money and just give us the ticket instead ... that time a man wearing a white shirt riding a motorcycle parked at the back of our car and the enforcer talked to him.

After a while, the enforcer went back to us, gave back the 500 peso bill and said that since he already filled up the other ticket he will generate a wrong report if he will issue us the other ticket (the real one), so he asked if we can just pay 100 pesos so he can cancel the other ticket and we can go ... being late for our appointment, I gave in to what he said ... I know it was wrong but just to end the situation, I gave him 100 pesos.

I searched the internet and I learned that the offense we committed was only due for a 150 pesos penalty and the way the Pasig traffic enforcer apprehended us was not within their standard operating procedure, he was supposed to introduce his name when he approached us.

Here is the link for the Philippines Traffic Violation with their corresponding penalties and the link for the standard operating procedure a traffic enforcer has to follow in apprehending traffic violators.

We have learned our lesson, so from now on, I will keep a copy of these documents in the car.  If you own a car, it is really a must that you know the rules of the road and your rights as a motorist.

I respect the traffic enforcers because I know they got a tough job out there but I should be ready for those who abuse their power and make money from unsuspecting motorists just like us ... this is our first time to encounter this situation and I know this will be the last ... we will arm ourselves with proper knowledge and if ever we'll be flagged down again for a certain violation, I'll make sure that the money I'll pay will be going to the proper authorities.

Phineas and Ferbs Twelve Hour Marathon

My children love to watch Phineas and Ferbs.  They love the inventions the brothers are always undertaking, the new songs being introduced with every Phineas and Ferbs episode and not to forget the always hysterical and funny character of Candice.

A lot of Phineas and Ferbs episode were missed by the children since school opened last June so when my daughter learned a few days ago that Phineas and Ferbs will have a twelve hour marathon today starting from 9:30 in the morning to 9:30 in the evening, she wrote it down and posted it on the refrigerator door and asked me if they can watch this twelve hour marathon.  Well, it's a Saturday and their third summative examination is already over so okay just for today, they can watch television for more than two hours besides, I also love watching Phineas and Ferbs.

Happy weekend everyone.

Happy Fish

At last, after a month I was able to clean our aquarium.  The water was already dirty since it's been a few weeks after I cleaned the filter.  The children sometimes put so much fish food which makes the water dirty faster.

Hubby took a whole day leave yesterday to attend to our daughter's school activity.  I can't attend because I have a sore eyes ... my son got it first, then my daughter and now it's me ... haaay life, despite of all the precautions I made, I was still infected with this sore eyes.  Anyway, since my husband attended to our children's activities at school, I have time to do extra chores aside from the routine work I'm doing everyday since our house helper left.

I was thinking of just replacing the water but when I saw that the stones and the filter itself is already dirty, I cleaned the whole aquarium first before replacing the water.  It took me two hours to clean all parts of the aquarium.  It was tiring but it's worth it because our aquarium now is clean and the fish seemed to enjoy it.

I think I have to schedule a regular clean-up of our aquarium ... the fish are more healthy and it is more enjoyable to look at them through clean and clear water.

It's A Cloudy Day Today

It's March and it's supposed to be the start of the summer season but today it doesn't feel like it.  It's cloudy the whole day and it was even raining in the morning.

I was supposed to jog around our place and do some hoops at the basketball court (just practicing for our coming basketball shooting at the office) but it was showering early in the morning so I just contented myself by jogging around the parking area at the ground level of the condo building we are residing.  At least I was able to sweat it out today.

After breakfast hubby and I went to the wet market because our refrigerator was already empty, we don't have anything to cook for lunch.  We can actually just go for the canned ones but I was craving for some beans so even if it's raining, off we went to the market.  Boiled beans really tastes good when the weather is cool.

We found the beans I wanted but instead of cooking it for lunch, hubby cooked the mussels and shrimp instead.  Haaay .... Anyway, it was long ago since we ate mussels so I still enjoyed our lunch and also the children they really enjoyed the shrimp ... their favorite.

Outside, the weather didn't change.  It's still cloudy with light showers from time to time.  It's kind of gloomy with this type of weather so after lunch while hubby and the children were watching tv, I went to our bedroom to do some dropping and adgitizing.  Inside the room I smelled  a sweet smell of flowers so I looked where it came from and I discovered that the mango tree just outside our bedroom window was already full of flowers and the scent was just so wonderful.  I enjoyed watching the birds hovering around the tree and it's really amazing how such simple sights uplift my spirit.

Have a great weekend everyone.

A Busy Week

It was such a busy week for me at the office.  The engineering stage of our project is nearing its completion and construction works is now on going at site so most of our construction drawings are needed to be submitted.  It's all work, work, work for now that I even have to work overtime.

I was so busy at work that I have not checked on my children's homework,  I have not helped my son prepare for his long test, I have not checked on our food supply at the refrigerator, I have not done my online activities ... and so on and so forth.  Haaay, there's so many things I have not done at home because of my busy schedule at work and I'm so thankful that my husband is always there to help me with these chores (except for my online activities).

I will still be busy for a few more months and I just pray that God will continue to give me good health so I can fulfill my tasks not only at work but most importantly my tasks as a wife and mother to my two kids.

The effects of coffee on me

I am not a coffee drinker but there are times when I crave for a cup of coffee and whenever my craving hit me, I just go for an instant coffee and usually it's a 3-in-1 type.  I love the smell and taste of brewed coffee but my system just can't take its strength.  My hands just kept on shaking every time I consume brewed coffee.

The only time that I find coffee useful is when I have my period and I have stomach cramps,  I drink instant coffee without sugar and cream and somehow I am relieved of the discomfort brought about by the pain of stomach cramps.

Last night after dinner, my husband wanted a cup of coffee and since it's still early in the evening, about 6:30, I also asked him to prepare another cup for me.  The coffee was really good and the aroma ... it's just so inviting.

Sleeping time came and I found it hard to sleep.  My eyes are closed but my mind was really active.  A lot of thoughts just kept on popping on my mind.  I went out of bed at around midnight and I drank a glass of cold milk but it didn't help so I just opened my computer and surfed the net.  I went back to bed at 3:00 o'clock in the morning and still I had a hard time getting myself to sleep.

The result, I woke up at 5:00 o'clock in the morning feeling tired and awful so I decided to stay in bed and just call the office that I'll be on leave today.

Our Saturday Family Day

It's Saturday once again and it's time to have fun with the whole family.  This time we went to the mall to treat my mother-in-law ... as promised and also to do a little shopping for the coming Christmas party at the office and at my children's school.

It's always our habit to visit the mall during their opening hours to avoid the crowd in the afternoon until closing time, especially this Christmas season when most people are going to the mall to do their Christmas shopping.  This way we can also avoid traffic jams and the difficulty in finding a parking space.

We arrived at the mall at around 11 o'clock in the morning and it's almost lunch time so we decided to take our lunch first.  Hubby and I planned to treat Mamu and the kids to Mini Shabu Shabu at Bonifacio High Street at Global City.  The restaurant just opened when we got there and there are still no customers so we were served with our orders immediately.  It was another new experience for Mamu and the kids.  My daughter enjoyed the idea of cooking the food on our table and even requested to try it again in the future.

Having our lunch at Mini Shabu Shabu
As usual, the children finished their food earlier and  while waiting for us to finish they went out of the restaurant and did some sight seeing outside.  Global High Street is a nice place, they got wide areas for children to just run around and enjoy.

Look at what the children enjoyed while waiting for us outside the restaurant.  My daughter enjoyed taking pictures with his brother having some fun with cute little dogs walked around by their owners.  My daughter's afraid of dogs so she just contented herself with taking the pictures at a distance.

At first CJ was afraid to touch the dogs
A little later, he was already starting to touch the dog.  His favorite is the one wearing green clothing just like him.
It's time for the dogs to go.  Bye, bye doggies.  Really cute ones.
We can actually see the children from where we were sitting inside the restaurant so we just relaxed and tried to continue our lunch while watching the children enjoying themselves outside.  The weather's good and it's not that sunny so even if it's already noon, it's not that hot.

We went back to Market Market mall after our lunch and aside from the gifts we bought for the exchange gift, I bought little items for my colleagues involved in our project and also for the classmates of my children and of course we also bought something for Mamu.  She loves shoes and that's what she always ask for her birthday.  Anyway she's not into pricey ones so it's not really a problem on the budget.

Around 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon, we're already done with our little shopping and so we went home and just took a rest for the rest of the afternoon.

It’s Saturday Today and A Regular Working Day At The Office

It’s Saturday today and not like any other Saturdays, today is a regular working day for us at the office.  Normally our regular working day is only from Monday to Friday but today management declared it to be a working day in exchange of our working day on Friday next week.  That means, we will have a long weekend next week … yehey!  This decision by our management was based on the schedule of our Christmas party celebration which will be held on Thursday next week.  This is to give employees a time to rest after the party.
As much as possible I don’t want to work on a Saturday because my children expect this day (and also Sunday) to be a family day.  They expect papa and mama to be off from work and them, also off from school.  So when my daughter saw me getting ready for work this morning she’s a little disappointed and she asked immediately her father if he is also going to the office … oh what a big relief when he answered no.  So it’s a family day today at home without me.
Commuting from home to office on a Saturday is a little comfortable.  Commuters are not that many compared during regular days, so it is easier to get a jeepney ride, however traffic is still present.  Our travel from Bicutan to Alabang via SLEX (South Luzon Express Way) was slow, maybe because of the additional volume of cars going out of town.  Anyway, I reached our office safe and sound and that is what is more important.
At the office, many colleagues filed their leave so they don’t have to report today.  Lucky them, they still have a lot of leave credits left.  For me, I only have one leave credit left and I’m reserving it for my children’s family day (also Christmas party) at school so no choice, I have to report today.
The good thing about working today is that our work is more relaxed because our counterpart in Japan is on their weekend vacation so we’re focused working on our scheduled task for the day.  There are no calls coming from them giving additional instructions or asking for drawings to be submitted.

It's A Food Trip Sunday

Today is a Sunday and it's a family day.  After attending the 8:00 o'clock mass, the children begged for us to go to the mall.  Okay, since it's been weeks after our last visit to the mall, my husband and I gave in to their wishes.

We went to Bonifacio High Street located at Taguig global city.  We haven't brought the children there yet and even I just went there once with friends.  The place is beautiful, it's a park and business center rolled into one.  A kilometer of beautiful landscape at the center with retail stores and restaurants/coffee shops on both sides.

Since it was still early, the retail stores are still closed but the coffee shops are already open and my husband and children just can't resist the lure of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.  We already had our breakfast at home so the doughnuts were just for dessert ... okay, well it's just a way of justifying our need for the doughnuts.  Anyway, looking at the pictures, you can't tell that the children have already eaten their breakfast.  It is as if it's their first meal after a long hours of starvation.

After the doughnut treat, it's time to walk around, play and take some pictures.  There's just a lot of space for children to run around without disturbing the shopaholics.

Time was really fast and once again, it's time for lunch.  The children were hungry again, as usual, so we decided to try Red Kimono, a Japanese Restaurant located just a walking distance from Bonifacio High Street.  It's a first time for the children to eat in a Japanese Restaurant and thanks to Sukiyaki and Tempura, the children enjoyed their meal.

My little boy doesn't need any assistance as long as he have his noodles without the vegetables.

For me and my husband, the food trip did not stop there.  We were invited to a dinner party so after taking the children home and taking a little rest, we went to Tong Yang, a shabu-shabu restaurant where the party was held.  It's a buffet type restaurant.

There were a lot of food choices, there are already cooked foods and of course there are ones which we can cook on our table (the very idea of a shabu-shabu).  My husband did all the choosing of foods to be cooked for our shabu-shabu and he picked only fish, mushrooms and a lot of green vegetables.  There are still a lot of ingredients for shabu-shabu to choose from but we have to control ourselves, we even skipped the rice and noodles so we won't get our digestive system into trouble.

There were two types of stocks served for the shabu-shabu, the dark one was spicy.

There's also a grill pot where we grilled some fish and thin slices of pork.
Our food intake was really stretched to the maximum level today and I feel like dieting for the whole week ...  maybe, just fruits?  Okay, I'll just decide about that tomorrow.

A Badge for my Blog

It's a weekend and with our internet connection up again, it's time to surf the blogosphere.

The first blog I visited was that of Mommy Tots and I'm thankful that I found her post about how to create a blog badge.  I have created a badge but I just don't know how to incorporate the badge to my blog.  That's where Mommy Tots' post helped me.  Her instruction is clear and simple, it's so easy to follow.  Many thanks to you Mommy Tots.

Here's the badge I made for my blog.  I made this badge using Microsoft Powerpoint then saved to pdf, then jpg.  I resized and compressed file using Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

I hope you can exchange badge with me.

Have a nice weekend everyone and God bless.

Problem With PLDT Telephone and Internet Line

Our telephone and internet connection at home was out of service since Sunday, November 21.  My husband contacted our service provider – PLDT, and the customer service in-charge said that he already sent a repair ticket to their technical group, in other words, checking and repair of our line is now in their list.
Tuesday came and it was already 24 hours since my husband reported the problem.  I tried to contact our number so I can talk with the kids but still all I can hear is a busy tone.   I texted my husband and requested him to make a follow up call to PLDT.  Once again the customer service in-charge told him that the repair ticket was on queue.
Today, it’s Wednesday and still we have no connection.  My husband called their hotline this morning and still the response is the same.  I’m a little impatient so I also contacted their customer service and guess what’s their response… of course same as what they told my husband with some apologies on the side.  So there’s nothing more we can do but to wait until they finished fixing the problem.  Until when? … I really have no idea.
For now, I just use our internet at the office during break time so I can write this post but aside from that, there’s nothing else I can do.  No entrecard, no adgitize, I can’t even reply to comments on my blog.  Haaaay, life.  There are a lot of restrictions in our internet system here that a lot of websites are blocked, but it’s understandable, internet here should be for official use only and it’s just fortunate that blogger was not blocked.
I hope PLDT technical group can find the problem soon so they can repair it and hopefully bring our telephone and internet connection at home back to normal again … the sooner, the better.

Early Morning Monday Blues

It’s Monday once again and after the two days off from office, here I am again, sitting in front of my computer trying to concentrate on my work.
Just like any other Mondays, it’s really hard to get up and be ready for work … I don’t know, I just feel that the two days off is not enough for all the things needed to be done at home.  But that’s the life of an 8 to 5 employee, whether I like it or not, it’s Monday and I have to report for work.
Commuting from home to office was also a struggle.  Reaching Alabang 15 minutes before 8:00 o’clock, I decided to take a tricycle going to our office instead of the usual jeepney ride … based on my experience, it’s hard to reach the office on time riding a jeepney with just this 15 minutes remaining before the ring bells at the office.  My fare was 6 times more than taking the jeepney but it doesn’t matter, I want to start the week right and arriving on time at the office is one way of making it right.
I really tried to start the week right but it seemed that the circumstances are against me this time.  Most of the intersections were at the stop mode and I did not make it on time … I was late for 1 minute and 2 seconds.  Grrrrrrrrr.
After taking a long deep breath, I was calm.  Even though I did not hit my target this morning, I’m thankful that I have reached the office safely.  I may sound sour-graping but it doesn’t matter, it’s better than thinking and feeling sorry about it for so long.  My week did not start perfectly as what I have planned but it doesn’t end there, there are still a lot of things coming and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

Celebrating Our Mother's Birthday

My mother joined our creator twenty-three years ago but that doesn’t mean that we stopped remembering her especially on her birthday.  Last Saturday was her birthday and as way of remembering her special day, my brother and I (there are only two of us) decided to meet at the mall together with our family to have lunch together.

A simple lunch at Gilligan's Market Market

It’s kind of a get-together for us especially for the kids who really had fun playing with each other.  I have two kids, a girl and a boy and my brother also has two kids, both boys … they are still working for the third one because they really wanted to have a baby girl … hope they can get it right this time …LOL

My brother and I with our respective partner

The children having a good time

After our lunch and a little rest we brought the kids to the children’s playground and let them play to their heart’s content while we “the grown-ups” were having a little chit chat while watching them play.  We really had a good time and I know our mother and also our father (he died earlier than my mother) would be very happy and proud of us.

We Have a Bed Weather Today

I woke up early this morning only to find out that it's still raining outside, still the effect of typhoon "Juan".  It's been raining here in Metro Manila since last night.  Typhoon "Juan" is not only a strong typhoon but it also  has a large coverage area.  Metro Manila is miles away from Isabela and Cagayan provinces where the eye of the typhoon is centered but still we experience the typhoon's wrath.  It's good that early preparation were made for this super typhoon resulting in a minimal number of casualties (as per the initial report).

Speaking about bed weather, it's really a bed weather today, it's cold and I felt so lazy to get up and get ready for work.  My husband also feels the same so instead of getting ready for work, we just turned on the radio and listened to the latest weather update and announcement for classes suspension.

My son's class was suspended but my daughter's class was not suspended so we have no choice but to get up and prepare her for school.  Just like any ordinary weekdays, we had our breakfast early and took our daughter to school but instead of going to work, we went back home and went back to bed.  It's so relaxing to just snuggle in bed with my husband and son enjoying the cool breeze coming from the open window.  Our daughter joined us in the afternoon after their classes were suspended at around 12 o'clock noon.

It's really good to take advantage of the bad weather and just stay at home and have some fun with the family.

Typhoon Juan

Satellite image of typhoon Juan released by PAGASA on Oct. 17, 2010 at 5 AM
Typhoon Juan internationally known as typhoon Megi is expected to make a landfall at the northen part of the Philippines on Monday morning, this is as per PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration), the nation's weather bureau.  The typhoon is expected to be a strong one with a maximum sustained wind of 160 KPH at the center.

Typhoons just like any other natural calamities are out of our control ... the only thing we can do is to be well prepared.  And speaking of being prepared, it's good to know that as early as yesterday, local government units especially those who are expected to be directly hit by typhoon Juan are doing preparations to somehow keep the damage to life and properties  to a minimum as possible.  Watching the news last night, food and water are stacked at the evacuation centers, lifeboats are being prepared, crops were harvested, livestocks are transferred to safe areas and people living at danger areas (prone to landslide and flood) were being requested to evacuate.

Of course there are still others who are hard headed, those who refuse to be evacuated because no one will look after their houses/properties.  Wow, material things are important than their lives ...what kind of thinking is that?  I understand that properties are important to us because it took time and lots of effort to accumulate all those things, but common, we won't enjoy those things if we're not already around.  I hope these kind of thinking for some people would change and just cooperate with their local authorities for smoother, easier and effective disaster management.

Here in Metro Manila, as of this writing, the sun is up and no hint of any typhoon (it's because were our of the typhoon's path) but just the same here at home, we are preparing.  Emergency lamps are charged, food supplies are checked, we regularly monitor the weather update and most of all pray.  Yes, the best weapon we have for times like this is prayer.

My Son's Creative Imagination

CJ my four year old son loves making something out of anything he sees interesting.  He plays with clothes hangers and makes butterfly figures, he ties handkerchiefs or plastic bags and he forms a fish figure.

This morning, he saw a plastic bag of ice drop sticks.  Those were extra ice drop  sticks my daughter used for her math subject last year.  He asked me if he could play with the sticks and I let him so he'll be busy and stop meddling with what I'm doing.

At first he was quite then after a while he called me to see what he have done.  Using the ice drop sticks, he formed a figure of a girl with long hair.  He told me it's his Ate (older sister) Christine.  I gave him a bond paper and asked him to transfer what he have done on the bond paper so we can see the figure clearly and we can take pictures of what he did.

CJ's masterpiece

CJ did a little mess because he broke some of the ice drop sticks but it's okay, he only showed his creativity and he had fun doing it.

A night without my husband and daughter

My mother-in-law wanted to take a vacation here in Manila so this morning my husband together with my daughter went to the province to fetch her.  It's only a 4 hour drive from here to their province but I don't want them to travel at night so it is better for them to stay there for a night and travel again tomorrow.

As far as I can remember, this is the first time that my children were away from each other for the night.  They are used to seeing, playing and fighting each other before going to sleep so tonight is a different night for them and also for me.  It's a quite night...no shouting, laughing or crying.  I don't have to play referee either.  But I admit it, I miss the noise and it is much better that way.

Before my son went to sleep he asked me if he can play first with his new found toy... the ice drop sticks.  I just let him play so he would stop asking when his father and sister will arrive.  He said he miss them already.

TGIF – It’s a Great Friday Indeed

Yes, it’s Friday… and not just an ordinary Friday, today is the last working day of the month of July. So, why I’m so happy? It is because I have only three late arrivals for this month and that means ... I made it this month ... I had complied with our company’s policy on late arrivals.

It was only second week of July when I already have 3 late arrivals so for the past two weeks, I’d been very cautious not to be late again until today. Thanks God, the traffic on my route to the office cooperated. I encountered less traffic on my way and of course I left our house 5 minutes earlier than my usual departure time. But I think the traffic was really lessened on my way to the office ... the usual problem areas which causes heavy traffic were already having a normal traffic flow ... thanks to the efforts of Taguig traffic police around Upper Bicutan Market. Their visibility around the area made the vendors stay away from the sidewalks and pedestrians walking on these sidewalks. Motorists now have the full access of the road.

On Monday it’s already August and my “early bird” challenge again begins. Anyway, I’ll just take each day at a time and hopefully I will have no more late arrivals this time.

Me and my temper

My temper beat me again today.  Damn, I really hate it when I loose control of my temper...I tend to do foolish things or speak words which I regret later.

My 8 year old daughter really tested my patience today and I was not able to control my temper.

Early this morning she had her tantrums and she really wanted to get her way.  I just let go of her behavior this morning and we went to the mall to watch Toy Story 3 and bought some grocery items before going home.  At the grocery store she again had her tantrums when we did not gave in to what she wanted.  Right there and then I wanted to shout at her but there are lots of people and I don't want to make a scene and embarrass her in front of many people.

I was really irritated by her behavior that when we were inside the car, I just flared up and shouted at her and called her names.  It's good that my husband had maintained his "cool mode" and asked me to stop.  I returned to my senses and stopped.

Haaaay, it's really hard to discipline children..... lots and lots of patience is needed and it's really a big challenge for me.  Children will always be children with all their tantrums and I hope next time I will have the much needed self discipline, to control my temper so I can deal with their behavior without resorting to spanking or shouting.
